Breakdancing is a very athletic and exciting sport to watch and do. However, many of the moves require a high degree of precision and can result in broken bones, strained muscles or serious bruises if they are not executed properly. As with any activity, the probability that you will be hurt is highest when you are learning to do it. As a result, it is very important that you protect your body when you are learning to breakdance. Learn how to protect your ankles while breakdancing.

  • Ankle supports
  • Soft mat
  • Trainer

    How to Protect Ankles While Breakdancing

  1. Step 1
    A flexible ankle sleeve will support your ankle but not interfere with mobility.

    Support your ankles. You can provide extra support for your ankles by wrapping them with an elastic athletic wrap in a criss-cross fashion, or you may prefer to purchase flexible ankle supports from a drug store.

    Practice on a soft surface. Injuries are most likely to occur during practice when you are learning new moves. Until you have perfected a move, practice it on a soft mat to cushion your ankles in case you land incorrectly.

    A bad landing like this one can lead to a serious sprain--or worse--if you do not know how to break your fall correctly.

    Work with an experienced coach. An experienced breakdancer will be able to provide tips on how to "stick" landings and also how to survive a fall if you feel that you are not going to land a move.
