One of the differences between a professional pool player and an amateur is shot follow through. What happens immediately after a pool shot is as critical as aiming the shot. This exercise will also help you see the effects of spin on a pool shot."Follow Through," or what happens to your body after contact with the cue ball, is the key to your success!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pool table
  • Pool cue
  • Cue ball
  • Object ball

Using Follow Through On Every Pool Shot Builds Muscle Memory

  1. Step 1

Get in position to take an imaginary shot. Make a few easy strokes letting the pool cue tip go well beyond the bridge hand. Keep the shooting arm shoulder up. But remember, there should be zero movement in your back when shooting a pool ball. All movement is from the elbow to the wrist of the shooting arm. Your body must remain down in shot position to achieve follow through.

  2. Step 2

Set up an easy shot in the middle of the table where there will be plenty of room for practicing follow through.

  3. Step 3

Take your usual comfortable stance for the set up shot.

  4. Step 4

Take the shot and then hold your stance. Note where the tip of your stick and body are. Did you stand up? Did you pull the pool cue back through the bridge?

  5. Step 5

Set up another easy shot, take this one in super slow speed. It doesn't matter if the shot goes, concentrate on your body position. Push the cue tip all the way through the cue ball and beyond, without pulling back. Stop the follow through when your elbow starts to drop.

  6. Step 6

Continue to shoot an easy shot with follow through, applying more force to the cue ball each time. Try shots with spin to truly understand the effects of follow through on a pool shot. The results are amazing.
