Save money on your laundry bills by using something you already have in your kitchen, like vinegar. As a matter of fact, vinegar is more natural and can be less harmful than chemicals found in many laundry detergents. It works well for delicates.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Dirty clothes
  • Vinegar
  • Water

Wash Clothes in Vinegar

Step1
Collect your dirty clothes and separate them into groups: whites, light colors, dark colors.
Step2
Fill a sink or bowl with at least 1 part vinegar to 2 parts water. For tougher stains use 1 part vinegar to 1 part water.
Step3
Add garments one or two at a time, depending on the space available. Let them soak for a few minutes.
Step4
Rinse the clothing with clean water.
Step5
Hang on a clothesline either inside or outside to dry.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use a stronger vinegar-to-water ratio for more difficult stains.
  • Vinegar also serves as softener, so you require no fabric softener.
  • While vinegar can get many stains out, it is not guaranteed to totally remove all tough stains. You may need to launder as usual after soaking in vinegar.
