This article will explain how you can do a complete 180 on a skateboard.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Skateboard
  • Comfortable clothing
  • Shoes that fit properly and are comfortable to use with a skateboard
  • A helmet and pads (for beginners)
  • A flat, smooth surface to skateboard on

    How to do a 180

  1. Step 1

Put your foot on your skateboard, toward the back, while it is on the ground. Use your right or left foot; either is fine. It all depends on which is more comfortable.

  2. Step 2

Use your other foot to begin pushing the skateboard forward. One or two really good pushes should do.

  3. Step 3

Put your feet into position on the skateboard. This entails having one foot on the front of the board and the other on the back, with your body facing to the side. At this point, you will ride the skateboard for a few seconds.

  4. Step 4

Wind up your body to the opposite direction from the way you want to spin.

  5. Step 5

Very quickly, move your shoulders (followed closely by the rest of your body) around into the direction of your desired 180.

  6. Step 6

Sweep your front foot around into the direction of the spin while keeping it on the board. Then turn your front foot forward on the board while leaving your back foot in regular position.

  7. Step 7

Make sure that your body weight is leaning into the turn in the direction that you are spinning.

  8. Step 8

Make sure to land the skateboard flat on the ground. If you did the move right, you will be facing in the opposite direction from where you started and will roll backward a little bit.

  9. Step 9

To practice more 180's, start over at Step 1.

Tips & Warnings
  • Practice!
  • Don't lock your knees; keep them slightly bent
  • Be careful moving your feet on the board, so as not to twist your ankle
  • When quickly moving your shoulders, take care not to fall over
  • If you are a beginner, wear a helmet and pads in case you fall
