  • 13x9-inch baking dish
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Small mixing bowl
  • 8 cups dried bread, cut into 1/4-inch cubes
  • 6 eggs
  • 3 cups whole milk
  • 1 tbsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • TOPPING:
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 6 tbsp. butter

      Place bread cubes in a greased 13x9-inch baking dish.

      Beat eggs, milk, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla and salt in a mixing bowl. Pour wet mixture over bread cubes.

      Cover and refrigerate overnight.

      Take casserole out of refrigerator 30 minutes before baking. Preheat oven to 350 F.

      Combine all topping ingredients in a small mixing bowl until topping reaches a crumb texture. Sprinkle topping over bread mixture, then immediately put in oven.

      Cover and bake at 350 degrees F for 50 to 60 minutes, or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.

      Let stand 5 minutes before cutting and serving.
