Now that your profile is created, it is time to start connecting. Use the contact wizard first. Click on find and follow and the wizard comes up. You can use it to search your email contacts in Gmail, Hotmail and many other email clients. It will tell you which of your contacts are already on Twitter, and you can add them from there. If you would like to find additional friends, you can search Twitter for other users in your area and with common interests. Let your friends know about Twitter. You can send them an email invite from Twitter. If you feel uncomfortable with that, you can simply direct them to your Twitter page and let them take it from there.

It is now time to start tweeting! Start your mini blogs, show your personality and maybe post a link or two. As you start to post more frequently, more users will start to notice you. Users will find you through searches and even be introduced to you through mutual contacts. As people start to follow you, do not feel obligated to automatically return the favor. Just like with other social networking sites, there are spammers out there. Always check out users before you choose to follow them. Also, do not be hurt if everyone you follow does not follow you back. You will have standards for the people you choose to follow, and so will others. They might not choose to follow you right away, but maybe someday they will. Keep tweeting your mind. Also keep an eye out for potential new connections. Do searches regularly and don’t be afraid to reach out to friends of friends. Pretty soon your follower count will be on the rise.

You will always receive direct messages on your phone while your mobile services are activated. Check out the different applications for your computer and for your phone. There are different phone services for smartphone and your desktop. You can link to them through the Twitter website and see if any of them appeal to you.
