When planning a trip to the beautiful, historic Mackinac Island, the first item of consideration should possibly be the time of year that you're thinking of traveling. Although there are limited sources of lodging, transportation and dining, the island is still a nice place for a winter getaway.

The next thing you'll want to do is work on researching the places offering lodging on the Island. These are highly regarded hotels, and in some cases, historic buildings.

At this point, we will probably be able to do some economical searching with regard to just how we would get onto the island from the mainland. This is something that doesn't necessarily have to be reserved with a credit card, as there are water transports all day long once the season comes into bloom.

Last, but not at all least, would be a look into how we might want to consider getting from home to Michigan so that you will be able to park your vehicle for the length of time that you plan to stay on the island. There is a small airport on the island as well, so you're able to fly in if you like.
