How to Choose the Right Shoes

  1. Step 1

Determine the formality of the event. Your choice of shoes and clothing will depend on the function. Choose conservative, stylish, or comfortable shoes according to the event and what you will be doing there.

  2. Step 2

Pick an outfit to wear. It’s easier to choose the right shoes when you know what outfit you plan to wear. Note the formality, color and style of your clothes so you can find shoes to flatter your outfit.

  3. Step 3

Search stores or your closet for potential shoes. Look for the appropriate style and color that would complement your outfit. Pick a few potential pairs of shoes to try on.

  4. Step 4

Try the shoes on and walk around. Determine if the shoes will be comfortable for several hours. If possible, try the shoes on with the outfit you’ll be wearing or you can try visualizing the outfit.

  5. Step 5

Check you overall look with the outfit and shoes in a full-length mirror for the best results. Make sure your shoes complement your outfit and do not overpower or distract from your clothes.

Tips & Warnings
  • Bring a backup pair of shoes to an important or long event like a wedding. Get opinions from friends or from people who have attended a similar event before.
  • Do not try to wear new shoes to a long event without breaking them in and testing them out first. They may be unbearably uncomfortable.
