Things You'll Need:
- Instructions from the doggy door kit
- Doggy door hardware assembly kit
- Pencil
- Tape
- Jigsaw
- Power drill
-
Step 1
After the doggy door has been purchased, the first thing one needs to do is cut a hole large enough in their door for the doggy door to fit.
-
Step 2
In order to cut the right size hole for the doggy door, position and tape the doggy door to the door you're cutting a hole in.
-
Step 3
Lightly trace the outside of the doggy door hardware with your pencil so that you'll know where to cut.
-
Step 4
With your power drill, make four large holes at each corner of the doggy door hardware. These holes should be large enough so that your jigsaw can fit and start cutting the rest of the doggy door hole.
-
Step 5
After the power drill holes have been drilled, cut the rest of the outline of your pencil with the jigsaw.
-
Step 1
You are now ready to install the doggy door you purchased from your pet or hardware store.
-
Step 2
Retrieve the instructions and the hardware from the doggy door kit you purchased. Usually the instructions for the doggy door will be easy-to-read and assemble, but following the general steps outlined below is what you'll usually have to do to install the doggy door.
-
Step 3
The frame of the doggy door should be placed in the opening of the door that you cut.
-
Step 4
Using your power drill, holes should be drilled so that the screws or other hardware can be placed to assemble the doggy door frame to the actual door.
-
Step 5
Attach the doggy door frame with the doggy door hardware kit that you purchased. This will usually include screws, washers, and the plastic flap that swings back and forth when the puppy or dog exits and enters your house.
-
Step 6
Your doggy door is now complete. If desired, however, caulk can usually be placed around the edges of the doggy door to make it withstand all types of weather!
