1
Buy multipurpose furniture that allows for storage space. A good example of this is beds with drawers, two-tier coffee and end tables and tables that have doors or drawers. Magazines, books and even remotes can be stored right inside the drawers.
-
2
Double your sleeping space with a futon, bunk beds or a sofa bed. Versatile pieces of furniture such as these can save space and accommodate overnight guests easily.

3
Hang as much clothing as possible to keep drawer usage at a minimum. Use dresser drawers to store only items that cannot be hung in the closet. Stretch closet space by adding a second rod. Organize shoes with a shoe storage compartment that can fit on the closet floor. Another alternative is a plastic shoe organizer that fits over the closet door.
-
4
Make use of corners by adding a corner shelf. A corner shelf is an attractive addition to the decor as well as a great way to create storage space.
-
5
Use hooks and over-the-door hangers. You can use colorful plastic hooks in a child's bedroom to make cleanup easier. Add smaller hooks in the kitchen for potholders, dish towels, coffee mugs and so forth. Put a coat rack on the wall in the entrance way, or purchase a standing coat rack to keep outer garments hung up.
-
6
Buy wicker baskets as an attractive way to keep items organized. Use them for magazines, mail, makeup and more.
-
7
Consider cedar chests. They are beautiful and add a touch of comfortable elegance to a bedroom or living room. Place at the foot of the bed and store bedding, clothes or keepsakes inside. You can also use a chest in the living room in place of a coffee table and still reap the benefits of extra storage space.
-
8
Use under-the-bed storage boxes and containers. You can store away seasonal clothing or other items and then neatly tuck them out of sight.
-
9
Take advantage of wall space if your living quarters are cramped and you have more stuff than space. Spruce up a plain wall and create extra space by adding decorative shelves.
-
10
Use wall cubes and crates in a child's bedroom. They come in bright colors, or you can paint them to match the decor of the room. They're great for storage and make it easy for kids to keep their rooms neat.
