Taking your iPod on the road is becoming more and more popular. But how do you use your iPod in the car with a factory-installed radio?Peripheral Electronics has developed the iPod2car, a useful interface that allows a direct audio connection to many car stereos. As an added bonus, the interface sometimes allows limited control of your iPod.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • iPod
  • Peripheral iPod2car interface
  • Tools for accessing your factory-installed radio
  1. Step 1

Find out if there is an appropriate adapter interface for your vehicle. Peripheral Electronics and Crutchfield are both good sources for this information (see Resources below). Check that your particular model of iPod is compatible--not all models are, particularly newer models like the iPhone or iTouch.

  2. Step 2

Remove your factory-installed radio. Some retailers, particularly Crutchfield, will supply instructions for this crucial step. Once you've removed the factory radio, disconnect the CD changer cable, if necessary, or locate the port where the iPod2car adapter cable is plugged in.

  3. Step 3

Route the adapter cable of your iPod2car to the location where you want the iPod connector to be. Popular locations include the glove box and center console.

  4. Step 4

Connect the adapter cable of the iPod2car to your factory radio, and reinstall the radio. Be sure to test operation and connections before you completely wrap up the reinstallation.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be sure to follow the instructions supplied by your retailer.
  • Double-check model compatibility before purchasing your adapter.
