“I Doubt It” is an entertaining game for all ages. Children as young as 7 can usually play successfully—and they delight in the opportunity to “lie” to their parents—or to accuse their parents of lying. The game can be played by any number, but between 4 and 6 usually works out best.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A full deck of cards
  1. Step 1

First, deal all the cards. If there are any leftovers, place them face down in the middle of the table.

  2. Step 2

Players pick up their cards, arrange them in order and hold them up so that the other players can’t see their cards.

  3. Step 3

The player to the left of the dealer—we’ll call him Allen--has the first play. He may play up to 4 cards. Allen puts the card(s) face down on the table and makes a statement like “These are 2 aces.” Note: The first player must say “aces,” the second player, 2s,” the next player “3s,” and so on. It doesn’t matter whether the player actually has any of that number or not—whatever number comes next is the card he must name. After going through the numbers to the king, the next player begins again with the ace.

  4. Step 4

Moving around the table to the left, each of the other players says, “Pass” or “I doubt it.” When someone says, “I doubt it,” the cards Allen played are turned over. If Allen’s statement was true, the player who said “I doubt it” has to take the cards into his hand—as well as any other cards on the table. If Allen’s statement was false, he had to take back the cards—and any other cards on the table.

  5. Step 5

If no one says “I doubt it,” the cards remain face down on the table, and the next player takes a turn.

  6. Step 6

Play continues until 1 player has no cards left; that player is the winner.
