Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 avocados
  • 2 tbsp. cilantro
  • 1 lime
  • 1 small tomato
  • 1 small onion
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • spices (optional)

    How to Make Classic Guacamole

  1. Step 1
    Avocado.
    Avocado.

Start with ripe avocados, which will be dark green and will yield to gentle pressure when squeezed. Choose Hass avocados rather than the larger Florida avocados. Cut the avocado in two, lengthwise, and remove the flesh with a spoon, placing it in a medium mixing bowl.

  2. Step 2

Cut the lime in two and squeeze the juice of one half over the avocado. This will prevent the guacamole from turning brown and will add flavor.

  3. Step 3
    Tomato.
    Tomato.

Finely chop the tomato and onion. Mince the garlic clove.

  4. Step 4

Using a fork or a potato masher, mash the avocado and lime juice until it has broken down into a chunky dip, but not completely smooth. Add the tomato, onion, and garlic and mix.

  5. Step 5

Add a dash of cayenne pepper, salt, chili powder, cumin or turmeric if you want additional flavor.
