Things You'll Need:
- Softballs
- Bat
- Pitcher
-
Step 1
Proper batting stance and hitting fundamentals are important. Keep your back shoulder up and make a level swing. Don’t drop the bat. Don’t swing up or down. Swing through the center. Make sure to keep your eyes on the ball.
-
Step 2
You are aiming to smack the ball hard with the barrel of the bat (sweet spot). Swing with your forearms extended. Half of the battle to hitting the softball further is actually connecting with the ball at the correct point on the bat.
-
Step 3
Strengthen your wrists and forearms. So much of the power behind your swing is in your wrists and forearms. Work on both with exercises off the field. Simple forearms strengthening exercises include squeezing a tennis ball or perform some pull-ups on a straight bar.
-
Step 4
Many hitters choose to step into the swing to increase bat velocity. Your body’s forward motion combined with the full swing of the bat gives added speed. Stepping into your swing allows you to use the power of your forearms to flick the ball off the bat
-
Step 5
Decrease the weight of your bat. Many hitters are simply grabbing the nearest bat. Try decreasing the actual bat weight. You’ll swing harder and faster with a lighter bat.
