Some people like their jeans with holes. Other people like their jeans with rips. There are people who like to tear their jeans, however, giving it a more rugged and realistic feel. When you tear your jeans, you are taking away some of the control; while this can give a great effect, it can also ruin the jeans by a tear that you do not like. There is a way, however, to tear jeans to try to control the tears somewhat.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start is by creating a "starting point" with a razor blade. Find the point that you want a tear and simply make a small incision in the material with the razor blade. This gives you a starting point and helps to make sure that the tear starts exactly where you want it to.

  2. Step 2

Take your fingers and open the starting point up. This will begin to tear the jeans. By using your fingers and giving slow but equal pressure, it will help to make sure that the tear is slow.

  3. Step 3

Once the tear is large enough to grab, you may tear more if you prefer. Some people enjoy small tears, while others want large tears in their jeans.

  4. Step 4

Throw your jeans in the washer after you have torn them. When trying to tear jeans, it is important to wash them to understand what the final product will look like after you have completed the tearing process.

  5. Step 5

Try them out, and proceed to tear more if needed.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you want, you can put the jeans on first and mark with a pencil where you would like to tear the jeans so you can see where the tears will fit on you.
  • As always, be careful with a razor blade.
  • Tear slowly; fast tears can lead to mistakes. A wrong tear can ruin your pair of jeans.
