Some people like a million different holes in their designer jeans. Other people just like to see a simple fade in their jeans. Most people, however, feel that spending hundreds of dollars and faded jeans is excessive at best. It is possible, and easy, to fade your own jeans.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pencil
  • Sandpaper
  1. Step 1

Find the roughest, most course sandpaper you can find. Many people will simply have the sandpaper in their garage. It is possible to buy the sandpaper at a hardware store for relatively cheap, however. Just make sure it is sandpaper that you can grab a hold of and use.

  2. Step 2

Put the jeans on. Taking the pencil, mark where you want the center of the fade. You see, faded jeans generally follow one pattern; the strongest part of the fade is at the knees. The fade then fades out toward the ankle of the jeans, and fades out toward the waist of the jeans, disappearing about halfway to the ankle or waist.

  3. Step 3

Take off the jeans, and start to rub the sandpaper at the point you have chosen for the center of the fade. Keep rubbing the area until you have found the fade that you are looking for. Some people like a heavy fade, while others like a light fade.

  4. Step 4

Now find the points that you would like the fade to end (both above and below the knee). Using the sandpaper, rub the section until it is the fade you desire (usually an incredibly light fade).

  5. Step 5

Using the sandpaper, finish the fade by rubbing the jeans between the knee and the opposite ends above and below. Make sure to make the fade heavier near the knee, and lighter toward the light ends. This will fade your fade, and will give your jeans the faded look that you are going for.

  6. Step 6

Wash the jeans and dry the jeans to see the final product.
