Attend a nursing school with a curriculum that is accredited by your state’s licensing board. Nursing programs are designed to serve candidates at three levels of education. Hospital programs are designed for high school graduates. Associates programs exist at the community college level. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is available at the college undergraduate level.

Sit for the NCLEX examination administered by the state licensing board. Candidates must sit for the exam regardless of which education path taken for the nursing curriculum. Each school will offer detailed information on exam requirements and dates.

Be open to the many different facets of a nursing career. RNs can provide hands-on direct patient care. They may also be administrative in nature and serve as healthcare managers in a variety of institutions. There is also a growing need for nursing educators as professors in nursing schools retire.
