If your home’s foyer or entryway is dark and gloomy, make a few changes and brighten the space. There are several inexpensive ways to add light to a dim foyer. Light is important, especially at night. What’s more, the right kind of light can add a sense of style and design to a bland space.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Install a new light fixture or add a table lamp. Oftentimes, the light fixture in the foyer area can’t accommodate the space. Therefore, you may need to install a bigger light. If you don’t want to hassle with the electrical wiring, put a table and lamp in the foyer.

  2. Step 2

Use a brighter light bulb. Sometimes, the solution to a dark foyer can be as simple as installing a brighter bulb.

  3. Step 3

Paint the foyer a different color. Dark décor is warm and inviting. Unfortunately, a dark wall color can make a room appear small and dull. Get rid of the dark paint in the foyer. A lighter color gives the illusion of a bigger space, making a simple paint job the best way to brighten a room.

  4. Step 4

Add mirrors to the walls in the foyer. Mirrors can help distribute light in a room. If the foyer has a window, place the mirror opposite the window. The natural sunlight will reflect off the mirrors and brighten up the foyer.

  5. Step 5

Open the curtain and let the sunshine in. Some foyers feature decorative windows and glass doors. While it’s normal to have privacy blinds and curtains, these home accents can darken a foyer. Occasionally open blinds or curtains and allow natural light to fill the space.
