Prom is an exciting time of year for young girls and having the perfect prom dress is part of the prom fantasy. If you are a girl who likes to feel unique, designing your own prom dress may be a good alternative to buying a really expensive one at the store. Designing a prom dress is not easy. However, it can be done in a fun way.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Look through various prom magazines to get inspirations for the dress you want for your prom. Magazines are an excellent resource for you to have when trying to design a prom dress.

  2. Step 2

Start sketching what you think might be your fantasy prom dress, but remember to try on the various silhouettes that are available in stores since you want to find the one that best fits your body.

  3. Step 3

Adjust the sketch as you try on different outfits.

  4. Step 4

Combine the best of all the designs to narrow down which looks flatter you the best. A neck from one dress may look incredible on a fluff skirt from another dress.

  5. Step 5

Submit your sketch to your local dress maker and go over what materials you want for your prom dress. The seamstress should be able to help design your dress with you and create alternatives to certain elements of the dress that may seem impractical.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep in mind the colors that look the most flattering on you. This will help when envisioning the colors for your design.
  • Don't worry too much about your dress. Just go with what feels right to you.
