Most of the newer hats have are made of cotton, wool, or jersey and have a plastic bill. Determine which material your hat is made from.
-
2
Cotton hats are durable and color fast. Spray the dirty areas with pre-wash spray. Throw them into the wash with like colors and cold water. Allow them to air dry only.

Wool hats can not be washed in the washing machine as they will probably shrink. Fill your sink with cold water and pour a small amount of Woolite into the water. Carefully wash your hat without scrubbing or twisting, which could affect the look and size of the hat. Rinse your hat in cool water and dry gently in a towel. Allow the hat to dry the rest of the way on a coffee can.

Jersey hats are very similar to cotton hats. You can wash them in the washing machine in cold water and allow them to air dry. There is no need for using the dryer as jersey material dries quickly on its own.

Do a colorfast test to determine if the color will bleed or fade. This can be done by taking a wet washcloth and some mild detergent (Woolite) and rub it gently on a hidden spot on your hat.

6
Rinse the hat by rubbing it with a wet clean cloth. Allow the hat to air dry before progressing.
-
7
Is the color all right? If so, continue to wash your hat in the same manner as before.
-
8
Take a new clean washcloth and wipe the hat down again making sure to get all of the soap out. Don’t drench the hat as this could ruin the bill. Allow your hat to air dry.
