There is no one way to apply Goth-style makeup. While many people mistakenly think there is one way to do this, it simply is not true. Typically, Goth make-up is worn by both men and women and is characterized by a very pale face with dark eyes and lips. The following suggestions are meant to act as a guide for what is typically described as "gothic". Practice and individual style will determine preferences, and in turn differences, in application

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Essentials:
  • Pale foundation
  • Eyeliner
  • Eye Shadow
  • Mascara
  • Lipstick
  • Glitter
  • Black Nail Polish
  1. Step 1

Apply a very light facial concealer. Some Goths prefer white powder, while others prefer a light white or simply a very pale, skin-tone tinted foundation. This is applied as a means to offset the darkness of the eye and lip makeup that follows. It is best executed when applied first.

  2. Step 2

Choose products to accentuate eyes. Generally, a range of products are chosen that consist of mascara, eyeliner and eye shadow and fake eyelashes. Mascaras and eyeliners are usually chosen in black. Eye shadows can range from very dark blacks and grays to very bright yellows, reds and blues. Fake eyelashes are also occasionally worn.

  3. Step 3

Select lipsticks and lip liners with which to paint your lips. Goths typically prefer deep, dark , colors such as: blacks, dark reds and purples for their lips.

  4. Step 4

Consider coloring your hair. Black and fire engine red are both traditional goth hair colors. Platinum and black with platinum streaks are also popular looks.

  5. Step 5

Add glitter and black nail polish to complete the ensemble. Glitter can be applied to a variety of places. Typically on the eyes, occasionally on the lips. A light dusting of glitter over the entire face is favored by some.

  6. Step 6

Top off the look with an all black ensemble. Goth clothes range in a variety of styles. Women and men alike tend to dress in all black and / or deep, dark reds. Clothes are generally tight-fitting and dramatic looking. Think lace, velvet, leather, trench coats, corsets, high boots—and you’re on the right track.

Tips & Warnings
  • While the favored color choice for eyes is grey and / or black, and while the look is usually "smokey", bold colors such as reds and purples are also frequently used. Don't be afraid to explore!
  • While fake eyelashes compliment this look, be sure you know how to correctly apply them. Poorly executed fake eyelashes are worse than no eyelashes at all.
