Step 1
Take the Fur Free Pledge. Each year, thousands of chinchillas are electrocuted and skinned for their fur. You can help save chinchillas by adding your voice to those of the many people who support the Humane Society’s Fur Free Campaign.
-
Step 2
Locate a chinchilla rescue organization to learn more about chinchillas. There are chinchilla rescue organizations in almost every state. These groups take in homeless chinchillas and provide care until the animals are adopted. They are also great sources of information about chinchilla habits and care. A link to a list of chinchilla rescue organizations is provided at the end of this article.

Step 3
Support chinchilla rescue efforts. Chinchilla rescue organizations are private, non-profit groups. They need donations, volunteers and in some cases people who can provide foster homes for chinchillas awaiting adoption.
-
Step 4
Adopt a chinchilla. The very best way to save chinchillas is to provide a home for a chinchilla. You will need to contact a chinchilla rescue organization close to you since most will not ship an animal to you. They work much as the Humane Society does. Usually you pay a modest adoption fee and agree not to breed the chinchilla.
