Things You'll Need:
- an animal
- a kid who loves the animal
- access to literature about animals
-
Step 1
Begin by learning the name and species of your pet. You can look at veterinary Science websites, or in books at the library that help pet owners care for their animal. Another good way to learn more about your animal is to talk to a breeder. Your local pet store can help you find one if they don't have the answers you're looking for.
-
Step 2
Search online for instructional diagrams and information. A Science lesson built around a pet hamster can include labeling body parts. You can download animal body part diagrams for labeling from the Enchanted Learning Website.
-
Step 3
Learn to feed your pet a nutritious diet; it's an important science lesson. Start at your local pet store, by reading the food packaging labels specific o your pet, and seeing which nutrients they're rich in. Reading an animal care book for your breed will explain why your pet needs certain specific nutrients.
-
Step 4
Investigate the most common illnesses for your pet and learn to recognize the warning signs. You can do this by visiting a Veterinarian, reviewing the information on the website of a Breeder's Association Website, or by consulting a pet owners manual, or your feed store / pet store staff or perhaps their free literature. Consider making a poster showing the warning signs of illness as a Science Project.
-
Step 5
Visit a veterinarian to learn a lesson about how to maintain your pet's health, for a Science field trip, You could also visit a local breeder or groomer to understand their different career choices, too. Learning about careers in Science can help children decide what they'd like to be when they grow up.
