Step 1
Sit in a chair like you normally would. Don't try to change your position or sit "correctly." Focus on the back of the neck and base of the skull. Take notice of any tension.

Step 2
Softly, allow the top of your head to fall slightly forward away from your spine. Allowing your head to fall slightly forward, rather than moving it muscularly, allows for some relief, according to Leland Vall, certified Alexander Technique instructor.

Step 3
With every shift in your position, focus on your neck while moving more slowly.

Step 4
Again, allow your head to fall slightly with a non-muscular movement. Keep your spine straight as if it were pointing toward the ceiling.
