How to Keep a Play Room Organized

The smaller the child, the more junk you collect. It is amazing how many blocks, stuffed animals and puzzle pieces you find around your house once children have entered the picture. Your little ones can still have a great time in this space with a little help from some organizers, rules and stations.

  • Baskets
  • Bins
  • Draws
  • Shelves
  1. Step 1

    Bins and baskets are the best to use when organizing all those colorful toys. First, it allows you to organize all of your stuff into different groups. Second, it also hides the clutter. Draws and shelves are also a great addition to any play space.

  2. Step 2

    Although play rooms are meant for fun and games, it doesn't mean that you can't have some rules to enjoy this space. Have a three toys out at a time rule. This will help with too much clutter, but also allow your children to make their own choices. Another great rule to have in every play room is to put toys away when you're done using them. Children as young as 18 months can understand this concept if it is modeled for them. In addition, there are clean up songs that you can teach your children that will help with organization.

  3. Step 3

    Just like a classoroom, stations can help keep your playroom get organized. Art, music, building, dress up and puzzles are just a few examples of how you can arrange your space. Think about what your child enjoys playing and set the room up to their individual teste.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure that shelving is locked to the wall. Some children are climbers and you'll want to make sure safety latches are holding the unit to the wall. The play room is for your children and should be their safe space.
  • Make sure that all items are within reach for your child.
