Along with the advent of spring comes the invasion of the pests. Pesticides become necessary to stave off various pests, protect lawns and homes, and make life more comfortable for home dwellers. Careful application of pesticides is essential to successful pest control and safety. Here we will show you how to avoid using too much of the necessary pesticides.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pesticide
  • Pesticide Applicator (sprayer, duster or scoop)
  • Water
  • Protective Gloves
  • Safety Glasses
  • Coveralls
  1. Step 1

Careful measurement and mixing are the first steps towards avoiding over application. Make certain to follow any instructions perfectly that are given to you on your bottle of pesticides.

  2. Step 2

Apply pesticides when there is little to no wind. Wind can interfere and cause drift. This means your pesticides will be moved by the wind, and could over-saturate one area while another area lacks proper coverage.

  3. Step 3

Pace yourself as you work, and develop a pattern. Keep your pacing as steady as possible to avoid saturating one area. Pay close attention to your pattern to avoid saturation and to keep from walking through what you are spreading.

  4. Step 4

Watch the pressure settings if you are using a sprayer, and consider using a duster if you are using granules. If this is not possible, measure carefully and spread as evenly as possible.

Tips & Warnings
  • There are numerous products on the market to help with pesticide application. Research at your local store to find what options are available to you.
  • Always exercise caution when working with chemicals.
