How to Beat Your Enemy With Compassion
Business usually comes with the caveat, "It's not personal, it's business," but sometimes some things can go to far. So how do you run a good business without the cut-throat mentality? Do you consider it a competition that you must win at all costs, or it is something you can separate from?

Don't Trounce Your Competitor too Gleefully

1
Find out the Stakes: Is this a must win or one that you would like to win? The number one rule in business is to never place yourself in a life or death (of your business) situation. It can lead to sloppy or desperate decisions.
-
2
Find out who you are competing with: Every business has competitors, and sometimes that can be good thing. But if you try to destroy your competitors it will not bode well. Find out as much as you can about your competitors and how they compete.
-
-
3
Make a plan: Is this competition in line with your business plan? Number two rule of business is to stay true to yourself.
-
4
Have a stopping point: It may seem noble to crush a competitor to the point of closure, but actually it is a PR nightmare waiting to happen. The only way it is good is if it is David taking on Goliath. You should compete, but have the wisdom to know when to stop.
-
5
Play to Win: This is not a contradiction of Step four. It is all about approach. Gloating is a no, no, but a few kind words for your competitor will go a long way.
