Looking for something quick, easy and flexible to make for dinner? Want something with flavor that doesn't take a lot of time or skill to prepare? Ground pork, like ground beef, can be used in a near endless variety of dishes, sandwiches and sides. But first you have to cook it.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Ground pork
  • oven
  • pan
  • grill
  • several minutes

    Pan frying

  1. Step 1

Defrost the pork if it's frozen. This can be done in the microwave but it's preferable to defrost by placing the meat on a plate in the refrigerator. One pound will take 16 to 20 hours to defrost.

  2. Step 2

Shape the meat. This can be done by rolling the pork into smallish meatballs or patties. The larger you make the meatballs or patties, the longer you will need to fry the meat.

  3. Step 3

Place the meat in the pan. The meat should be arranged so that each meatball or patty is touching some part of the pan.

  4. Step 4

Fry the pork on medium heat. Turn the meat in 3-4 minute intervals. If your meatballs or patties are particularly big, this interval will increase. If your meatballs or patties are particularly small, this interval will shrink.

  5. Step 5

Test to see if the meat is cooked thoroughly. The meat is done when the internal temperature reaches 160 degrees. One way to tell if the meat is done without using a meat thermometer is to simply break one of the meatballs or patties in half. There should be very little or no pink on the inside of the meatball or patty.

  6. Grilling

  7. Step 1

Follow step one from the previous section. Again, one pound will take 16 to 20 hours.

  8. Step 2

Season the ground pork with any herbs or spices you desire. Do this in a bowl, after the meat is thawed but before the meat is shaped.

  9. Step 3

Shape the meat into patties or mold the meat around skewers. Patties should resemble the size and shape of hamburger patties. When molded onto skewers, the meat should form logs approximately 3/4 inches thick.

  10. Step 4

Cook on the grill using medium to medium high heat. Flip the patties or turn the skewers every four or five minutes. Cooking time should be about 10 minutes.

  11. Baking

  12. Step 1

Defrost meat as detailed in previous sections.

  13. Step 2

Follow the recipe of your choice. There are many recipes you can follow at this point since the meat does not need to be pre-cooked. Combine any cut vegetables, herbs and spices, rice or other ingredients.

  14. Step 3

Form the pork into a loaf prior to cooking for best results.

  15. Step 4

Cook at 350 degrees for 90 minutes or until the internal temperature of the meat reaches 160 degrees. For best results, use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature of the meat.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be careful not to under-cook any kind of meat, including ground pork. Doing so increases the risk of of contracting e coli or other forms of food poisoning.
  • Use proper care around open flames, hot surfaces and grilling equipment.
