1
Make sure that the Scotch is served at room temperature. Never chill whiskey or place ice cubes in the drink. The coolness will dull the flavor.
-
2
Pour the whiskey into the glass. Generally, half full is an appropriate amount. Allow the whiskey to settle in the glass for a moment, then gently swish the contents around within the glass. This will help to release the full bouquet of the Scotch.

3
Before actually drinking the Scotch, take a moment to savor the scent of the Scotch. Doing so will help to prepare the taste buds for the flavor that is about to come.
-
4
Sip a small amount of Scotch. Allow the Scotch to settle onto the tongue and gently move the liquid around the mouth. This action will distribute the flavor and enhance the pleasure derived from the drink. After a moment, swallow the Scotch and prepare to enjoy another sip.

5
Scotch is best enjoyed served without any accompaniment, such as water or soft drinks. However, if the taste of the Scotch is too strong for individual tastes, add one part bottled water to two parts Scotch. Make sure to use bottled water that is not carbonated, as the carbonation will alter the flavor and aroma of the Scotch substantially.

Tips & Warnings
Scotch is a drink that is intended to be enjoyed at a leisurely pace. Sipping rather than downing the liquid quickly will result in an even and pleasant sensation.
Never use tap water with Scotch. In general, tap water is loaded with additives that will alter the taste and bouquet of the whiskey considerably. If water must be used, always choose a good brand of bottled water.

It's your bottle, hell, drink it how YOU want. Chill it in warm weather if you like (more suited to lighter blends such as J&B), turbocharge it after a winter walk with Stone's Green Ginger Wine and hot water - liquid dynamite, will keep the chills at bay! Ice? Why not? Coke, lemonade, soda, water -whatever YOU enjoy! Don't underestimate so-called "inferior" blends - Famous Grouse, Teacher's, White Horse are all competitively priced and widely available and all are superb. Don't fall for the "malt snobbery" scam, sure single malts are lovely, but many are overpriced and lack balance. I've just had an email from Highland Park distillery offering me their latest 50 year old single. Mine for a measly ten thousand sterling a bottle - great scotch no doubt, but belongs in the realm of the barking mad! -
