Instructions

    • 1

Decide whether you want to install your blinds inside the window casing or if you want them to hang on the outside of the window frame. Venetian blinds installed inside the window frame allow you to hang curtains at the window without the need for extended rods. The blind can be opened and close without disturbing the curtains. They can also be raised or lowered while the curtain provides some privacy from outside viewers. Blinds hung over the window frame generally serve as the window treatment itself. When raised, they expose a bare window.

    • 2

Take measurements for the windows. If you wish to hang your blinds inside the window frame, it is necessary to measure the distance inside the frame. Make sure your measurements are accurate. You may think a 1/4 inch doesn't make a difference, but if you purchase blinds that are 1/4 inch too wide you will need to return them for a smaller size. Be sure to measure the length of the window. If you are installing blinds over the window frame, decide how far you want them to extend beyond the bottom of the window and measure accordingly.

    • 3

Purchase venetian blinds that are designed for your window size. Most are designed to fit windows in a range of sizes that vary an inch or two. The frame of the window pane will cover an inch or so on each side of the blind.

    • 4

Remove the mounting brackets and screws included in the venetian blind kit. Using an electric screwdriver, mount the bracket inside the window frame for blinds that will fit inside the frame. Make sure the bracket is fitted snugly into the upper corners of the window frame. Insert the top of the blind into the bracket and add the caps provided to prevent the blinds from sliding out. For blinds installed over the window frame, mount the brackets onto the window frame above the top of the window. Be sure to measure the distance between brackets carefully and situate them so that they are evenly spaced on either side of the window.

    • 5

Lower the blinds and attach the wand for opening and closing the blinds. Set at desired level.

Tips & Warnings

  • Set aside an entire day for the project to ensure you have time and won't be rushed.

  • Mounting brackets must be level to accommodate blinds. The use of a level to determine proper placement is recommended.
