Step 1
First, warm up before practicing Ashtanga yoga. You can do this with some light cardio for about 10 minutes. Doing this will ultimately help with getting your body all lined up the right way, and can be an asset to establishing posture properly.

Find your balance. For good posture, good balance is also recommended. Find a fixed object in the room that you can focus on when you are in poses.

Pay attention to the instructor or DVD. Watch how others are doing their poses if you are unsure of how your posture should be. No matter what, your posture should not be sloppy or limp when practicing any type of yoga.

To maintain good posture, string the poses together by using the plank pose.

Imagine that your spine is a yard stick. You want to keep your spine straight at all times for the best benefits and to prevent injury.
