If you're planning to remodel your kitchen, the sink is a relatively easy place to start. If your kitchen faucet is dripping or just looks outdated, you'll be surprised how easy it is to remove, making way for the next step in your project.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Shut off the water supply to the sink first, by locating the hot and cold lines under the sink and turning off the knobs. Check to be sure the water is completely off before proceeding.
Step2
Disconnect the hot and cold water lines that go the the faucet, using an adjustable wrench. If the area is too tight to access, a basin wrench is designed to reach into tight areas.
Step3
Remove the handles from your faucet to expose the nuts that are securing it to the sink. Take off the nut on each side, using the adjustable wrench.
Step4
Crawl under the sink, and with a basin wrench remove the nut that secures the faucet spigot to the sink. Your faucet should now lift easily off the sink.

Tips & Warnings

  • Prop the flashlight under the sink so it's pointing up where you need to see. This will free your hands to work.
  • If a nut is corroded and won't turn, spray it with penetrating oil to loosen it.
  • A minority of faucet handles are fastened beneath the sink. If yours falls in this category, follow the same procedure only working below the sink instead of on top.
