If you're about to hire a new recruit for the workplace or you are looking at a potential renter for your property, you'll want a background check. Here are some ways to find out for free what you need to know.
Google them. They've most likely googled you and your company. A basic Web search can bring up potentially questionable items.
Step2
See if they have a MySpace or a Facebook page. If they're between 18 and 35, they probably do. Someone's social networking Web site can reveal a lot about a person and so can a Web album of photographs of themselves.
Step3
Research their families. Web sites such as Zabasearch.com and Intelius.com display family connections. It also shows their past addresses. Perhaps the father of your potential new employee is someone you know, for example. This information is mainly useful to ensure consistency, to confirm anything they may have said about their past.
Step4
Cross-reference their contact information. If they provided an email address, Google it to see if it is mentioned anywhere. They may not have used their real name, but did provide their real email when registering with questionable Web sites.
Step5
Use their name or email to check if they are active on Web sites such as eBay or Youtube and find out their tastes. Is the person an owner of the largest Spiderman comic collection you've seen, or a fan of collecting something more questionable?
