Messy, stained cookware is a problem for everyone. The hardest cookware to clean is the type with coating inside to make it nonstick. Here is a great method to remove stains from nonstick cookware and keep your nonstick pots and pans looking new.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Baking soda
  • Bleach
  • Water
  • Medium-sized non-plastic bowl
  • Dish soap
  • Cooking oil
Step1
Measure 2 tbsp. of baking soda, 1/2 cup of household bleach and 1 cup of water. Put all three ingredients into a medium-sized non-plastic bowl. Mix well until all the baking soda is dissolved.
Step2
Pour the mixture into the pan you need to clean. Put the pan on the stove-top and bring the mixture to a good rolling boil. Boil for several minutes, then shut off the heat. Let the pan sit until it cools.
Step3
Pour the liquid out of the pan. Wash the pan in soapy water. Rinse and dry. Wipe the inside of the pan with cooking oil to reseason it, and your pan should be almost as good as new.
Step4
Make a paste with baking soda and water, if there are still stubborn stains left. Use only a tiny bit of water—just enough to moisten the baking soda. Place the paste on any stained areas of the pan and let sit overnight. In the morning, rinse the paste out and wash the pan as usual. It should now be free of even the most stubborn stains.

Tips & Warnings

  • Only use a little water to make the baking-soda paste. If the paste is too wet, it won't cling to the stain.
  • Don't use a plastic bowl, as bleach can ruin plastics.
