Nature makes for a great topic.

Our first step is to know that vocalic assonance or assonance is regarded as "near rhyme" and only so due to the fact that it does not have consonants that agree; however the stressed vowels do. This technique has been common in what is known as a more modern balladry (20 century), and an example is this stanza from "Fair Annie" 'Bind up, bind up your yellow hair, And tie it on your neck; And see you look as maiden-like As the day that first we met.'

Hmmm...could we write a poem about our dream kitchen?

Our next step is understanding that there are melodic uses with regard to this format, but we will stay with the above format in writing our first vocalic assonance. Let's keep this simple and begin with an English Ballad format; the one that we see above, in "Fair Annie" is acbc. Let's work with that.

...or about a boy who thinks the world of his dad?

We can choose.....the dream kitchen, or yes, perhaps that is my personal choice. Work with me. Tear down, build up Your new room to bake. Or is there love And magic house paint? That is one stanza, and I feel artwork coming on!

Keeping in mind, there will be some un-rhymed melodic uses, but we have not looked into that just yet. Just be certain that your format is 20 lines total. That will be an official English Ballad of an assonance nature.
