It has been said that an adult could not stand the pain that a baby goes through when the baby is teething. You may find that some, but not all, work for your baby. Use what works!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Cold, wet washcloth
  • Teething toy
  • Over-the-counter medication
  1. Step 1

Give your baby an age-appropriate and safe teething ring or toy to chew on. The texture of these special teething toys often helps alleviate gum discomfort.

  2. Step 2

Give your baby something cold to chew on. You can try a wet washcloth or plastic spoon that has been in the freezer for a few minutes. You can also buy an infant-safe mesh bag and put frozen fruit in it for the baby to suck on. Make sure that the mesh bag is approved for infants and is safely closed to prevent choking.

  3. Step 3

Try over-the-counter medications. You can rub some teething gel on your baby's gums or you can give your child an appropriate dose of ibuprofen or acetaminophen.

  4. Step 4

Extra cuddles and distractions can go a long way toward easing your baby's discomfort.

Tips & Warnings
  • If your baby is in extreme pain or running a high fever, then seek the advice of your pediatrician to make sure that the baby is, indeed, teething and is otherwise healthy.
