How to Purchase Tickets to a Sold-Out Sporting Event

  1. Step 1

Make sure the event is sold out. Call the box office of the event to find out whether there is a chance of buying tickets. Sometimes, extra seating is opened up for a limited time. Also, check the Web site of the venue of the sporting event.

  2. Step 2

Listen to your local radio stations. Many have contests and promotions and give away free tickets to sold out sports events as the prize.

  3. Step 3

Check your local papers. Under the sporting section in the classifieds, there are almost always numbers for sold-out ticket sales.

  4. Step 4

Look on the Internet and in the classified ads online for ads for the tickets you are seeking. There are also Web sites on which you may trade tickets to get the event you desire.

  5. Step 5

If all else fails, go to the event anyway. Look for scalpers outside the gates who may sell you tickets to the event. Be prepared to pay a very high price for them, however.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be prepared to spend at least double the original purchase price for a sold-out ticket to a sporting event.
  • If you are buying tickets from individuals, make sure you do not get tricked. Insist on seeing the tickets before you pay for them.
