Broccoli rabe is a bitter green leafy vegetable (in the broccoli family but without the large stalks). But when sauteed with garlic and seasoned with a little black and red pepper, the result is tasty addition to any meal or delicious by itself with fresh Italian bread.A popular Italian dish combines broccoli rabe with browned sausage in a sandwich, a nice change of pace to the regular peppers and onions topping. Things You'll Need

  • 1 bunch of broccoli rabe, washed well and cut into 2-3 inch pieces
  • 3 large cloves of garlic, peeled and sliced
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • black pepper to taste
  • 1/2 tsp. red pepper flakes
  • salt to taste (optional)

  1. How to make Broccoli Rabe and Garlic

      Wash broccoli rabe well and cut into small pieces, about 2-3 inches. Place in large pot, cover with water.

      Heat to boiling, reduce heat and simmer for about 20 minutes or until stalks are tender. Set aside.

      Saute garlic in a medium frying pan until browned. Add broccoli rabe and season with pepper(s). Cook for additional 10 minutes.

      Remove with tongs. Serve hot.

Tips & Warnings

  • Broccoli rabe and garlic can be refrigerated for up to a week. Freezing is not recommended.
