Step 1
Power yoga and Ashtanga yoga both give practitioners increased strength and flexibility. Practicing most forms of yoga will produce these results, along with increased blood circulation, with regular, disciplined and ongoing practice.
-
Step 2
Because power yoga is derived from but does not exactly follow the principles of Ashtanga yoga, the workouts vary greatly from instructor to instructor. Each power yoga instructor will have their own thoughts about what is taken and altered from traditional Ashtanga yoga practice.
-
Step 3
Power yoga tends to be designed for people who are already physically fit and enjoy exercise. Ashtanga yoga, as most other forms of traditional yoga, can be practiced at all fitness levels in advancing steps while slowly learning the exercises.
-
Step 4
Ashtanga yoga has a definite set series of poses to be practiced and power yoga does not. No matter which Ashtanga yoga class you take, the same poses will be taught and practiced.
-
Step 5
The biggest difference between power yoga and Ashtanga yoga is spiritual. Ashtanga yoga also teaches the practice of chanting and meditation, while power yoga simply practices the physical exercises.
