Valentine's Day is the perfect time to show that special person just how much you care. Take it a step further, and make a card yourself that shows your own creativity, thoughts, and feelings. This is an exciting thought, but the hardest part is getting started. Here you will find a guide to choosing the perfect Valentine's Day card paper for your beloved.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

How to find the perfect paper for your Valentine.

  1. Step 1

Draw a rough draft of your card. Decide what you want to do with your card before you buy any of the supplies. This eliminates waste and keeps you from running out to get extra supplies. This is also going to decide what kind of paper you will need.

  2. Step 2

Make a list of the supplies you will need. You will need a 80-110 pound card stock paper for the actual card. You will need decorative paper for the background and any embellishing you wish to do.

  3. Step 3

Decide on a basic color you want to work with.

  4. Step 4

Go to a craft store or mart. Be sure to bring along your rough draft. In the scrap booking and card making section, there are a lot of acid-free decorative paper. The paper is sorted by color scheme.

  5. Step 5

Choose your paper with coordinated colors.

  6. Step 6

Take the paper and place them next to each other to see how the look together. Sometimes contrasting patterns look great with a solid color between them. Refer to your rough draft and visualize it with this paper.

Tips & Warnings
  • A scrap booking store or craft store is the best place to go. The people there are very knowledgeable and will be able to show you great paper that go together that you may not have considered on your own.
  • When you do the verbiage for the card, use your own handwriting. It is much more personal than printing it out on a printer.
  • Don't forget to always keep in the mind the preferences and favorites of the person who will be receiving your card.
