Step 1
So, you are having a conversation with your significant other and cannot seem to shake the feeling that what they have told you is a lie. It can be hard to come to grips with thinking your mate is not being honest. It is important not to let your mate change topics or include irrelevant additional details.
-
Step 2
Act disbelieving and suspicious while appearing somewhat confused; look off into the distance as if to make your mate believe their hypothetical lie may have conflicted with another piece of information recently revealed.
-
Step 3
Ask follow up questions, but act as if you are making idle conversation. Gauge the facial expressions and body language of your mate. Fidgeting, touching the neck or face and blushing are signs that your mate could not be telling the truth. Do they pause before answering further questions? If they are not looking at you directly while replying to your queries, they may be making up additional details as they go along.
-
Step 4
Change the subject and then bring up the story, but tell it back with inconsistencies to see if your partner corrects you in any way or seems concerned that you will not get off the topic. If there are any inconsistencies that your mate does not confront, then there is a possibility you are being lied to.
-
Step 5
If all else fails, bring up subject in front of friends and family. The reactions of your mate and their friends or family can be most revealing. Should someone seem uncomfortable or amused, it is a sign your mate is lying.
