You just purchased a great pair of new jeans but they are a little stiff and not quite form fitting yet, like your old favorites. You know, the pair that when you slip them on, they fit just right every time and feel great all day long. How can you break your new jeans in quickly, so you can wear them tonight, look great, and be comfortable? It really is possible if you have access to a clothes washer and dryer and a place where you can do some leg stretches. You will be able to get those jeans in shape in just a couple of hours.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • New jeans
  • Clothes washer
  • Laundry detergent
  • Fabric softener
  • Clothes dryer
  • A place to stretch
  1. Step 1

Washing a pair of new jeans before you wear them is a good idea anyway just in case other people tried them on at the store before you bought them. Go ahead and put them into the washer, add your regular laundry detergent, and fabric softener just like normal. If you have other dark colored laundry that needs to be washed, it is fine to add that as well.

  2. Step 2

Set your washer on the normal cycle. A shortened cycle might not soften the jeans up enough.

  3. Step 3

Place the washed jeans into the dryer until they are dry.

  4. Step 4
    Deep knee bends

Put the jeans on and do some deep knee bends for a couple of minutes. Be sure to alternate your knees so that both legs of the jeans are stretched sufficiently.

  5. Step 5
    Squats

Sit on the floor, bend your legs, and touch your toes.

  7. Step 7

Finally, do some toe touches in a standing position. If the jeans do not feel stretched enough then just repeat the exercises.

Tips & Warnings
  • If the jeans you purchased are very stiff, you may need to put them through two or three wash cycles to soften them up enough.
  • If the new jeans you purchased are tight-fitting jeans, then you need to remove them from the dryer when they are still a little bit damp.
  • After the initial dryer time to soften the jeans, you might want to avoid drying them in the future in the dryer. If you hang your jeans up to dry instead, they will last much longer and keep their “new” look longer.
  • Be sure to read and follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for washing and drying your specific pair of new jeans. Especially if those directions are different from the ones suggested in this article.
