  1. How to Use Weaving Sticks to Create a Guitar Strap

The first thing you need to do for the soda straw weaving sticks is to pick the size of straws that you want to use. If you are using thin yarn go with the regular soda straws. If you have bulky yarn use the milk shake straws, they are thicker. You will want to use yarn that is sturdy but flashy.

The next thing is to determine the size of the project. For this project we will be using eight soda straws. This will give use a tighter weave, so that it will hold the weight of the guitar.

    • 3

Determine the amount of yarn that you will need to create the wraps of the weaving sticks. The wraps use the same concept of the wraps on a loom. They are just the strings that are in the inside of the weaving sticks. This will be different for each project, but just to get you started we will measure the length from where you want the guitar to rest on your shoulder. While the yarn is over your shoulders and add five to six inches to that number. Wrap a piece of masking tape around the yarn to mark that measurement. You need to make the small piece that will come up through the strap holder on the guitar. Cut one piece of the yarn the length need for each straw. Thread the straw by dropping the yarn thought the straws.

Start the weaving process by weaving in a back and forth manner. So, start off with the working yarn in the back of the first straw and then around the front of the next straw and continue this process to the end. Then, in the opposite manner, wrapping the yarn in the front of the first straw and behind the second, continuing this process to the end.

    • 5

Once all the straws are loaded with yarn and ends are even, tie a knot using all strands of the yarn. Push the straws up to that knot and tape then together at the top by running the tape around the straws, on both sides. Remember you will be moving this tape so use masking tape.

Once you have the length that you need and the extra for the folding over, tie off the wrap end. Use either a machine or by hand and whip stick the ends underneath the strap. Now attach to the guitar holder and fold over. You can secure the end to the strap using a whip stick or with several buttons.
