How to Sew the Sleeve Hem on You T-Shirt

  1. Step 1

Start with a clean t-shirt. Turn the t-shirt inside out and prepare the t-shirt by ironing the portion to be hemmed into place on your ironing board. If the original Hem is not evident iron your own hem by folding over one half inch of fabric around the sleeve. Do this slowly and carefully.

  2. Step 2

Now pin the hem into place with straight pins.

  3. Step 3

Set the sewing machine to a basic straight stich and thread the machine with a color that matches the sleeves of the t-shirt you are hemming.

  4. Step 4

Before placing the shirt sleeve on the sewing machine you will want to remove the extension table.

  5. Step 5

The needle plate will have various different hem lengths written on it. Line your shirt hem up to 3/8 of an inch line. This is the size hem you will be using on your t-shirt. Lock the shirt in place by bringing down the presser foot.

  6. Step 6

Take your time and slowly sew a straight 3/8 inch hem around your shirt sleeve. Backstitch when you are done to lock the hem in place.

  7. Step 7

Cut the thread and release the presser foot. You are now ready to take the shirt off the sewing machine.

  8. Step 8

Take the safety pins out of your t-shirt then turn it right side out.

  9. Step 9

Put on your t-shirt and enjoy.
