    How to Weatherproof Windows

  1. Step 1

Go to your local hardware or home improvement store and pick up some plastic for your windows. Depending on the quantity and the brand you choose the price will vary. Tape the plastic around your windows and using a blow dryer you can shrink the plastic to a perfect and tight fit. Using plastic you can keep the cold air out and still be able to look outside.

  2. Step 2

If you want to save money and new windows are out of the question, a few good alternatives will cost you nothing. Seal off the rooms that are not being used. Closing vents and even covering the vents in these rooms will keep the air conditioning and heat from entering, redirecting these toward areas where they are needed.

  3. Step 3

Weatherstrip is always a great idea, but it can get pretty expensive if you need to take care of a lot of windows and doors. It definitely works, and can be found at your local hardware store.

  4. Step 4

All utility companies offer great tips and ideas for weatherproofing windows and doors. Depending on what company you go to, you may also be able to find information online. Some companies send out fliers and might have representatives available to talk about different options with you.
