Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Scrapbook album with blank acid-free pages
  • Acid-free stickers
  • Acid-free markers
  • Acid-free adhesive
  • Acid-free paper
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Ruler

How to Commemorate a Vacation With a Scrapbook

  1. Step 1

Buy an album, and make sure the pages are acid-free. For a vacation, you usually want to buy a large album with 12 inch by 12 inch pages. If you have many photos of the same tourist attraction, or some pictures that didn't turn out well, you can buy a smaller album size. Some craft stores have albums especially for trip photos, and they are labeled on the front with MY VACATION.

  2. Step 2

Buy your paper and stickers to match your trip. Scrapbook stores have supplies just for vacation albums, especially if you went to a common vacation place such as Florida, Las Vegas, or Washington, D.C. If you went camping or to the beach, you will also have many supplies to choose from. Just make sure you buy everything ACID-FREE. If you went somewhere that is more obscure or unusual on your trip, then think in terms of themes. Did you play sports? Then you can buy some sport stickers. Did you try a lot of new restaurants? Then look for stickers or paper with food. If nothing pops out at you when you are at the store, then you can choose a color theme such as greens, browns, and yellows if you went on a vacation where you took pictures of nature.

  3. Step 3

Plan your pages. You can organize your album in several ways. Some people choose to organize their scrapbook chronologically. For a cruise scrapbook, you could organize the album according to the places you visited or your favorite activities on the ship. For a cross country journey, you could make each layout dedicated to a major city you stopped in.

  4. Step 4

For each page, pick your photos, cut them to fit on the page, and stick them on. Pick stickers or paper to accent your photos. Make sure to leave room to journal about your trip and to label your pictures. The vacation is fresh on your mind when you first come home, but as you know, it is easy to forget as time passes. Some people like to use markers to journal, and others prefer to type their thoughts on the computer, and print them out. Again, just make sure the paper you print on is ACID-FREE.

  5. Step 5

Share your vacation scrapbook with your friends and family.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you do not live near a scrapbook store, you can always look on the internet for supplies.
  • Some cruises are offering scrapbook sessions. If you are into scrapbooks, try to attend one of these. You will receive free materials for your pages that match the places you visited on your cruise. Some of these sessions even allow you to plan a few pages.
  • Make sure all your materials are ACID-FREE!
