If you are like many women, your lifestyle may require you to be out of the house and on the go for as many as 12 hours or more per day. And while you may start off your day looking ultra-professional and polished, your makeup may start to go downhill sometime shortly after lunch. Diligent touching up can keep you beautiful from breakfast through cocktails and beyond. Read on to learn how to touch up makeup.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Blotting papers
  • Astringent
  • Cotton balls
  • Eyelid primer or eye cream
  • Mirror
  1. Step 1

Determine if you need a minor or serious touch up. Minor touch ups can be done in a matter of seconds in the restroom, in the car, or at your desk at work. They involve blotting your face with blotting papers, applying powder where needed, and blotting and reapplying lipstick or lip gloss. Serious touch ups are usually done between two distinct phases of your day. Perhaps you are freshening up after you finish one job and have to go to another job or out for dinner or drinks. These touch ups involve removing some makeup and reapplying, so you need a good-size mirror and about 10 to 15 minutes to concentrate on what you are doing. If you need a serious touch up you will need some astringent and a cotton ball and some eye cream or eyelid primer in addition to the blotting papers and your makeup bag.

  2. Step 2

Remove oil. If it is a minor touch up, blot your face with blotting papers and move on. If you have been on the go all day, if your skin is very oily, or if you really need to look good for phase two of your day, do the serious touch up. Take the time to put some astringent like Sea Breeze on a cotton ball and wipe the makeup off your T-zone (your chin, nose, and forehead) and any other place that is shiny or where makeup appears to be "melting" off. Give the area a minute to dry. You may want to blot it with a paper towel to speed things along.

  3. Step 3

Reapply makeup to T-zone. If you are only doing a minor touch up, all you will need at this stage is powder and possibly a little concealer if the area around your nose is red or you have blemishes. For the serious touch up you will apply a little makeup primer or oil-free moisturizer to smooth your canvas. Wait a minute until it sets and then reapply your foundation lightly. Then reapply your concealer to problem areas and set with powder.

  4. Step 4

Fix your eye makeup. For a minor touch up you can most likely skip this step. For a serious touch up you will want to take a finger and run it over your eyelid to smooth out the creasing of your eye makeup. Then apply a bit of eyelid primer to smooth out your canvas. Eye cream will work too. Give it a minute to set, then reapply your eyeshadow. You will need your application to be lighter then the original application because there will already be a base of color. Then add a little extra under eye concealer and some fresh eyeliner. Apply mascara to only the ends of lashes to freshen them up.

  5. Step 5

Fix your lips. Remove lip color as best you can with a tissue or a piece of toilet paper. Brush your teeth and use mouthwash. Then reapply your lipstick, liner, and/or gloss as usual.
