How to Use the Night Mode on a Canon XH A1

The Canon XH A1 comes with many programmed auto exposure (AE) modes that allow for automated advanced recording techniques. One of the AE modes is Night mode. Night mode allows you to record even when light levels are low by using lower shutter speeds. This article will tell you how to use Night mode on the Canon XH A1.

    How to Use the Night Mode on a Canon XH A1

  1. Step 1

    Press the exposure lock button located on the bottom of the XH A1's front side.

  2. Step 2

    Turn the power dial to the symbol representing night mode (a crescent moon).

  3. Step 3

    Press the record button to record in night mode.

  4. Step 4

    To focus in night mode, it is sometimes necessary to turn off auto focus by setting the focus mode switch to M.

  5. Step 5

    Focus manually by turning the focus ring at the front of the XH A1.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not change the AE mode while recording because the brightness of the image may be abruptly changed. Autofocus may not work as well as normal in Night mode. Manual focus is recommended.
