If you are ready to get your warp off of the loom and complete it into a full blanket, you want to make sure that everything stays in place. One of the ways to do this is to cut your rug from the loom in the correct way.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

    Removing the Warp Properly

  1. Step 1

Find the loops. When you begin to weave a rug, you start by putting thread across the loom and these threads are tied to the end. These tied threads turn into loops that keep the weaving held together. The process of taking a rug off of a frame loom begins with removing the edges from the loom.

  2. Step 2

Cut off two to four of the loops from the loom. You want to make sure that you only do a couple of cuts in each bunch and maintain this system all of the way across the rug.

  3. Step 3

Tie the threads together. Now that your loops are off, you will tie them together with the knot being close to the rug. This will make what is called a fringe. After you tie the loops, you will cut off the next two to four edges from the warp and do the same thing.

  4. Step 4

Put on the finishing touches. The last thing that you want to do is make sure that all of your fringes are even. Once you have the knots all the way across on both sides, you can comb them out and cut them so that they are straight and even on both sides.

Tips & Warnings
  • Only tie as much as you can handle. It doesn't matter how many pieces of thread are in each of the knots for the fringe. Make sure that you don't put too many or not enough so that everything can stay even and allow the rug to keep a natural and relaxed look.
