How to Treat Autoimmune Inner Ear Disease
Autoimmune Inner Ear Disease is extremely rare with only about one percent of all hearing loss cases being attributed to this disease. Doctors think that it is caused when antibodies mistakenly attack the cells in the inner ear. Right now there are only a few treatment options available, but new research projects are working on more effective treatments.

Treat Autoimmune Inner Ear Disease

1
Test your response to steroid treatments. Prednisone or Decadron are typically offered on a four week basis to see if your body responds to steroid treatments.
-
2
Work out your long term treatment plan. If you respond well to steroid treatment then your doctor will most likely put you on a long term regime of Cytoxan or Methotrexate.

3
Try plasmapheresis. Some people are experiencing great results from this type of treatment. Plasmapheresis uses plasma, which contains the white blood cells found in the blood, to infuse the immune system and rebalance it.

Look forward to new treatment options. Right now Etanercept, also called Enbrel, is showing amazing results in clinical trials. Unfortunately, because of manufacturing problems, this treatment is not currently available to the public. However, once manufacturing problems are overcome it will be a great option that promises better hearing retention than the above treatment options.

Tips & Warnings
If you have Autoimmune Inner Ear Disease then keep your eyes and ears open for new treatment options. They may be few and far between, but they will be developed eventually.
Like any other medical treatment, you need to tell your doctor what prescription medications, over the counter medications and dietary supplements that you are taking, as they can interfere with how your body responds to the AIED medications and therapies.
